Grant Opportunities

Staff from AUPresses Regular Members (formerly known as full, associate, and international members) and Affiliate member presses are eligible for the grants below. Applications will be reviewed by a subcommittee of the Association's Board of Directors.

The applications deadline was April 1, 2019. Recipients make their own travel and hotel arrangements, and must provide the Association with a report about their experiences at the meeting.

Early Career Grants

These grants cover up to $1,800 to put toward registration fees and travel expenses for an individual to attend their first annual meeting. Applicants must have more than six months but less than three years of experience in scholarly publishing.

2019 Early Career Grants were awarded to:

Rebecca Colesworthy, Acquisitions Editor, State University of New York Press
Claire Eder, Journals Marketing Specialist, University of Wisconsin Press

Qualifications:

1. Applicant must be a permanent full-time staff member at a Regular or Affiliate AUPresses member with a start date at their current press that is prior to September 26, 2018.
2. Applicant must have less than three years of experience in scholarly publishing.
3. Applicant may not have attended an AUPresses (previously "AAUP") Annual Meeting in the past.
4. Applicants from presses where a staff member received a 2018 Early Career Grant are not eligible to apply.

Newcomer Registration Grants

Three Newcomer Grants will be awarded to individuals who would like to attend their first AUPresses Annual Meeting. Grant recipients are responsible for ALL transportation and lodging expenses. Newcomer Grants cover your full meeting registration fee (workshop fees are not included).

2019 Newcomer Registration Grants were awarded to:

Anna Faison, Marketing Assistant, University of North Carolina Press
Megan Malashewsky, Agency and Digital Marketing Coordinator, University of British Columbia Press

Qualifications:

1. Applicant must be a permanent full-time staff member at a Regular or Affiliate AUPresses member with a start date prior to March 26, 2018.
2. Applicant may not have attended an AUPresses (previously "AAUP") Annual Meeting in the past.
3. Applicants from presses where a staff member received a 2018 Early Career Grant or 2018 Newcomer Grant are not eligible to apply.

Diversity Grants

Diversity Grants are open to all qualified employees of AUPresses members who are identified as a member of an underrepresented group within the Association. AUPresses will waive the annual meeting registration fees and reimburse lodging and travel expenses up to $1,100.

2019 Diversity Grants were awarded to:

Qualifications:

1. Applicant must be a permanent full or part-time staff member at a Regular or Affiliate AUPresses member with a start date prior to March 26, 2018.
2. Applicant may not have attended an AUPresses (previously "AAUP") Annual Meeting in the past three years (since 2016).
