March 18, 2020

As of March 18, the AUPresses 2020 Annual Meeting is proceeding. AUPresses staff and Board are closely monitoring the situation with the coronavirus outbreak, and we will keep members, exhibitors, and speakers informed—even if there is no change in status. The safety and health of our attendees is our primary concern and we are in regular contact with the venue to ensure that attendees can meet safely. On March 15, 2020, the CDC recommended against holding an event with more that 50 people for an 8-week period—until May 10—and the Annual Meeting is scheduled to start on June 13. News and guidance about the coronavirus is rapidly changing, however, and we aim to adapt as quickly as possible.

Registration is now open. Because there is uncertainty about what will happen over the next few months, we have modified our cancellation policy to allow individuals to cancel their registrations without penalty until May 28.

The Annual Meeting Program Committee has put together a terrific program. Note that this program is preliminary and may be subject to more changes than usual, given the circumstances.

We are investigating alternatives if it becomes unsafe for this meeting to go forward, as well as options for individuals who are unable to travel to the meeting. These alternatives include virtual meeting capabilities.

In the event of meeting cancellation, AUPresses will refund registration fees, but cannot assume responsibility for any costs, damages, or other expenses of any kind.

If you have questions, please contact us, and we'll do our best to answer. We appreciate your support and patience.

Response to COVID-19 from Marriott International

In response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), Marriott International is reinforcing recommended measures on appropriate hygiene standards and following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), applicable guidelines of the global and local health authorities, and taking relevant health and safety measures. The wellbeing of our guests and associates continues to be of paramount importance. Additional information on COVID-19 is available on the WHO and CDC websites.

From the Westin Seattle

Here at the Westin Seattle, we have been providing hand sanitizing stations in as many public areas of the building as possible – but we of course still recommend to our guests that washing hands is the best option, and it is a good idea to have one's own personal hand sanitizer while traveling as well. The hotel provides highly effective sanitizing foam soap in our public restrooms which is specifically designed to meet all USDA requirements for food handling and is tough on pathogens. Additionally, any hotel associates that may be exhibiting symptoms of illness will be asked to stay home.
