Sales Assistant


The Sales Assistant will provide a wide array of support related to the backlist sales as well as leading certain sales initiatives. This is a temporary position until 12/31/2018.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Routine administrative tasks (phones, mail coordination, correspondence, filing, photocopying, and scanning documents for archiving) necessary to complete job functions
  • Assist with and selectively lead special sales initiatives including researching prospects, preparing pitch/proposal materials, sending samples and other materials, follow-up, and negotiation to close sales
  • Assist in the management of book and author events at bookstores, festivals, and other venues including pitching events, sending sample materials, securing event commitments and orders, coordinating event logistics, communications with authors and other participants, and related tasks
  • Assist with the internal and external sales-related databases tracking sales, events, etc. including data input/management, report processing/customization in collaboration and shared-responsibility with other press staff
  • Assist in the management of pre- and post-publication sales needs including communications with sales reps, sending sample materials, follow-up with sales reps, writing promotional copy and other informational needs, producing sales reports as needed, and other tasks related to our the press in-house and third-party sales operation
  • Assist in the management of trade show, festival, and conference exhibits including list preparation, sending display materials, and follow-up as needed
  • Assist in the management of rights including managing data and sample materials for use by third-party rights companies and agents, and related reporting as needed
  • Complies with all Trinity University policies and guidelines
  • Other duties as needed and assigned

Special Requirements:

  • Availability for routine but periodic evening and weekend work
  • Possible out-of-town travel
  • Able to lift up to 45 pounds on a routine basis

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Associate's degree required, Bachelor's degree or higher preferred
  • Strong organizational, project management, and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and oral communications
  • Must be an independent and resourceful problem solver, able to manage a wide range of tasks, often with shifting priorities and time frames
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team environment
  • Standard technological proficiency including Google Drive and Microsoft office suite
  • Familiarity, if not proficiency, with Adobe Design
  • Experience in book publishing or retail sales preferred
