Princeton University Press (PUP), a global organization of about 150 employees, seeks a Contracts Assistant to join the Contracts department. The Contracts Assistant’s primary role is to support the Director of Contracts with daily contracts operations as the Press implements a new title management system.

This is a full-time 12-month term position, and near the end of the assignment, there will be an assessment of the long-term need for the role. The base rate for this position is $35,000/year. The Press is one of the top academic publishers in the country, provides a comprehensive and affordable benefits package, and is located in a historic building on Princeton University’s campus that is walking distance from downtown Princeton with easy car access to Route 1.  

Responsibilities Include:

 

  • Confirm accuracy of rights reversions.
  • Recover backlist intellectual property by crosschecking multiple databases and documents.
  • Research new and existing publishing agreements to determine subrights and territory restrictions.
  • Correct subrights database inaccuracies and organize digital files as needed for mass data importation.
  • Maintain integrity of information entered into the subrights database, and answer staff queries regarding said information.
  • Coordinate the physical and digital archival of new publishing agreements.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Degree from a four-year college or university preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in legal research; contracts, subrights, or permissions; and/or short or long-term project management.
  • Demonstrated interest in contracts and/or copyright.
  • Ability to multi-task and solve problems in a clear and timely manner.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently.
  • Ability to draw conclusions from digital, verbal, and printed resources.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Products – Word, Excel and Access.
