Graphic Designer


Reporting to the sales and marketing manager of Purdue University Press (PUP), the graphic designer will create and maintain a variety of materials for PUP, including but not limited to postcards, invitations, flyers, posters, book covers, journal covers, advertisements, and exhibit materials for both print and online use. The graphic designer will aid editorial team members on clean-up, redrawing, or creation of illustrations for book chapters or journal articles. He or she will work to maintain and enhance the PUP brand and will support social media efforts of the marketing team. Additionally, the graphic designer will work with or supervise design and/or marketing student interns. The graphic designer will be a self-starter capable of meeting deadline-driven projects as an individual as well as a member of a team.

Required qualifications: 


  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual design, visual communication, computer graphics technology, or related field.
  • Portfolio submission is required for consideration.
  • One year or more experience in graphic design, publication design, or creative communications.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Proficiency with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team situation.
  • A valid US or Canadian driver’s license is necessary for employment in this position.
  • Ability to lift and carry 10-25 pounds frequently and 40 pounds occasionally.


Preferred Qualifications: 


  • Experience with project management, social media, and organization branding.
  • Experience with commercial printing.
