Publicity Manager


The University of South Carolina Press is seeking a publicity manager to join our marketing and sales team. Established in 1944, the Press is South Carolina’s oldest and largest book publisher, specializing in scholarly humanities and regional trade publications. With approximately 1,300 books in print and 45-55 new books published each year, the Press is essential in enhancing the scholarly reputation and worldwide visibility of the University of South Carolina, the state’s flagship research university. The Press is committed to publishing outstanding print and digital content for a diverse regional, national, and international audience. 

The publicity manager, reporting to the marketing and sales director, will work with authors to promote their books and the Press using a variety of traditional and digital media.


Job Responsibilities

·         Write and edit news releases, media pitches, and jacket copy

·         Identify and contact stores/venues to pitch author events

·         Manage website and social media platforms

·         Manage the design and production of flyers, ads, galleys, and catalogs

·         Create mailing lists for galleys and review copies

·         Create and distribute email promotions

·         Format catalog (using template) and coordinate catalog cover design with vendor

·         Develop and execute advertising plan within budget

·         Represent the Press at conferences, signings, and special events


Minimum qualifications: A bachelor’s degree, preferably in communication, English, journalism, public relations or a related field, and three years of relevant work experience is required. Proven writing and editing skills are essential. Experience working on a Mac operating system and software, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Adobe Acrobat, as well as the Microsoft Office suite. Must have strong interpersonal communication skills and outstanding organizational and time-management skills.
