Sales Representative, University of Chicago Press


Job Summary:

The University of Chicago Press seeks a highly motivated and organized individual to join the books marketing sales team. The Sales Representative will be responsible for selling to and managing the retail and wholesale book market in a specified regional area of the United States. 


  • Create new business for the Press and maintain good business relations with existing accounts.
  • Call in person on major Retail and Wholesale Accounts; service smaller accounts by email, post, or telephone contact.
  • Travel extensively throughout the designated region and to sales conferences in Chicago.
  • Maintain detailed itineraries for each selling season.
  • Work in the field without close supervision.
  • Assist other departments of the Press by attending book events and promoting books published by the Press.
  • Maintain extensive public contact with book buyers, Press authors, regional bookselling organizations, University staff and faculty, and individuals from other academic institutions.
  • Analyze sales results and other spreadsheet data.

  • Ability to set up and break down book exhibits at regional shows required.
  • Ability to carry samples, catalogues and other selling materials to accounts.
