Description

The Pennsylvania State University Press, a division of The Pennsylvania State University Libraries and Scholarly Communications, seeks an Inventory Control and Distribution Specialist (Level 3) to oversee the Press’s warehouse operations at the University Park, PA campus. The press publishes approximately 100 books per year and 67 peer-reviewed journals and distributes for multiple international publishers. Roughly 65,000 units ship from the warehouse annually to locations across North America and to distribution partners in the UK, Japan, and Australia. The successful applicant should be thoroughly acquainted with the principles, practices, and procedures of inventory and warehouse management and be willing to learn about the books being sold. Familiarity with the publishing industry, particularly university presses, as well as publishing/inventory standards such as EDI, ASN, ONIX, and Amazon’s Vendor Central, as well as inventory software such as InOrder or Acumen, would be a plus. Supervising the work of the Shipping Clerk, this position is expected to promote a culture that is conducive to building an effective and diverse team and to maintaining a safe and environmentally friendly workplace. Duties will include processing orders received via, web, fax, and email, through inventory and financial electronic systems; answering phones and providing support to customers, authors and vendors to include placing orders, coordinating delivery schedules, resolving problems and providing product information; overseeing the processing and restocking of returns from customers and exhibit materials as well as the receipt of inventory and the shipping of orders; managing physical inventories and overseeing the maintenance and organization of the warehouse. Working closely with the sales and marketing department, the Inventory Control Specialist provides regular sales and inventory reports; handles claims, returns authorizations, and chargebacks; and ensures that materials for marketing and sales purposes such as exhibits, review copies, and promotional items are processed, shipped, and accounted for properly. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with warehousing systems and Penn State's IBIS system preferred. The successful candidate must possess transferable communication skills, pay attention to detail, maintain confidence, and be able to prioritize.
