Description

The University of Chicago Press seeks an experienced and accomplished Marketing Director for its Books Division. The Marketing Director is a member of the Press’s executive management team and provides leadership and management for the Marketing and Sales Department in the Books Division. The Press publishes annually an average of 300 books, both print and digital, and provides marketing and sales support for 7-800 books from the Press’s marketing client publishers.

The position is based on the University of Chicago’s Hyde Park campus.

Responsibilities:

  • The Marketing Director is responsible for: promoting the Press’s brand and for establishing strategic goals and priorities both domestically and internationally within the Marketing and Sales Department and for overseeing their implementation; working with Press management to explore options and define the strategic direction of the Press with regard to long term business development, system needs, and budget priorities; managing the marketing client publisher distribution program; overseeing marketing input on Press publishing decisions, publishing plans, and prices; projecting and achieving annual sales goals for the Press and its client publishers; and developing and managing the Marketing and Sales Department annual revenue and expense budget. The Marketing Director is responsible for an annual expense budget of over $5 million, manages a department of 27 full-time staff members, and oversees annual sales of approximately $26 million.
  • The Marketing Director has six direct reports: Sales Director, Promotions Director, International Sales Manager, E-Commerce and Direct-to-Consumer Sales Manager, Reference Marketing Director and Marketing Distribution Manager.
