Publicity and Acquisitions Coordinator, Ohio University Press

The role of this position is to support book sales by working to ensure that our titles are well-represented broadly in the media and within specific interest groups related to each book. Work includes proactive and creative cultivation of media relationships around Ohio University Press and Swallow Press books, extensive copywriting for catalogs and marketing collateral, obtaining blurbs from prominent scholars and writers, preparing manuscripts for transmittal from acquisitions to production, training and supervising student workers, generating a lively social media presence that meets readers and scholars where they are, and, in all work, balancing and meeting deadlines.

This position is an integral part of a team of professionals working to bring cutting-edge scholarship, local culture, and new literary voices into publication. It is well-suited for an individual who is ready to accept challenges and utilize new technology and novel approaches to promote each seasonal list. While the Publicity and Acquisitions Coordinator will work within and be supported by the publishing staff, there is room for individual ideas of implementation and creative expression, especially through writing.

Ohio University Press is the oldest scholarly publisher in Ohio and is a leading publisher in books about Africa, Appalachia, and the Midwest. Located in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains, Ohio University has access to the natural beauty of Wayne National Forest and the Hocking Hills, and it is within driving distance of Columbus, Charleston, and Cincinnati. Along with a solid package of health, dental, and life insurance, Ohio University employees participate in the state pension plan, receive tuition benefits for themselves and dependents, and enjoy a generous allowance for paid time off.
