EDITORIAL PRODUCTION COORDINATOR, MIT Press, to manage the production of book publications, including maintaining the collection and publication of files.  Responsibilities will include reviewing and preparing manuscripts for packager, assessing necessary level of editing; sending manuscripts to the packager for evaluation of scheduling and cost estimates; ensuring timeliness and quality control for all aspects of production, from copy-editing to publication; serving as primary production contact for external vendors, reviewing all iterations of page proofs for MIT Press style, marking up PDFs, and implementing editorial and format change; contributing to the design, editing, and production of publications, including copyediting and proofreading of jackets; maintaining daily communication with publishing service vendor; attending regular team meetings to share production issues; proofreading and preparing copy and illustrations for publishing; helping conceive and implement changes in content and format; providing support for coordination and tracking of materials, deliverables, and responsibilities between graphic designers, packager, external printers, and own team; and handling other duties and projects as needed. 

Job Requirements
REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree in related field; at least two years’ publication production experience; thorough knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style and APA Style Guides; familiarity with copyediting, proofreading, and page format specifications; project management experience, including managing book schedules; proficiency with or ability to learn Microsoft Word, Excel, InDesign, and Adobe Acrobat; comfort marking page proof corrections and comments; excellent organizational and verbal and oral communication skills; and meticulous attention to detail.  PREFERRED:  experience working with or for a full-service publishing vendor; familiarity with, or an interest in learning, book manufacturing; and knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and electronic manuscript preparation and editing (especially Scribe).  Job #18441-6
