Charge

General Objective:

  • Create, implement, and monitor programs to help scholars improve their understanding of scholarly publishing, the role of university presses, and the value of peer review, primarily as a service to scholarship but also to support individual Association members in demonstrating value to their parent institutions and develop a community of faculty advocates for presses everywhere; consider especially the needs of historically underrepresented, marginalized, underfunded, and/or independent scholars in your activities.

Specific Charges to the Faculty Outreach Committee:

  1. Continue to develop new content for the “Ask UP” website, especially with regard to shifts in open access policy and emerging AI questions —engaging with other committees as needed and with an eye toward integrating equity, justice, and inclusion concerns throughout. Continue to evaluate the sustainability of content development protocols, including the recruitment of new hosts and rotation of responsibility for monitoring and answering visitor-submitted questions. Create a plan to assess and update aging content. Work with Central Office staff to continue to promote the Ask UP site.
  2. Work with other committees as needed to develop scholarly conference panels or webinars about publishing for new authors; work with the Central Office to make the webinars broadly available on Association and individual member websites, on popular video-hosting platforms, and broadly across social media.
  3.  Working with the Journals Committee, finalize and launch the journals resources. Develop comparable resources for digital projects/publishing.

Common Charges to All Committees of the Association:

  • Submit reports on Committee activities to the Association Board in time for its October, March, and June meetings. Interim reports are due on 24 October 2024, and 28 February 2025; final reports that recap all committee activities for the year and are shared with the membership are due 23 May 2025. Follow guidelines for preparing reports found in the Chair Handbook in the Committee and Task Force Chairs Group on UP Commons.
  • Follow all guidelines and requirements published in the AUPresses Chair Handbook, including those regarding the use of UP Commons, inclusion of board and staff liaisons, and any research or survey projects.
  • Appoint a member of your committee to serve as a liaison to the Equity, Justice, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee. This role provides updates on your committee’s efforts in support of equity and inclusion, seeks information, support, or guidance on EJIB matters as needed, and attends a Fall meeting for liaisons hosted by EJIB Committee.
  • Review your General Objective and Specific Tasks at the end of the service year and recommend changes for next year to the Executive Director.
