Raise UP and Indigenous Voices in Canada

This event, held during University Press Week 2020 and moderated by Michelle Lobkowicz (acquisitions editor, University of Alberta Press), will feature a pair of editors and authors from each of four Canadian university presses, discussing individual books and demonstrating how the university presses provide a platform in Canada for Indigenous voices.

Speakers:

  • from McGill-Queen’s University Press: Kyla Madden (senior editor) and Nancy J. Turner, editor of Plants, People, and Places: The Roles of Ethnobotany and Ethnoecology in Indigenous Peoples’ Land Rights in Canada and Beyond.
  • from University of Manitoba Press: Jarvis Brownlie (series editor, Critical Studies in Native History), and Brittany Luby, author of Dammed: The Politics of Loss and Survival in Anishinaabe Territory.
  • from University of Toronto Press: Jodi Lewchuk (acquisitions editor) and Miigam’agan, one of the contributing authors for the forthcoming The Gatherings: Reimagining Indigenous-Settler Relations
  • from Wilfrid Laurier University Press: Siobhan McMenemy (senior editor) and Deanna Reder and Daniel Heath Justice (series editors, Indigenous Studies Series).
