New Hires, Promotions at Association of University Presses

New York, NY, and Washington, DC— The Association of University Presses is pleased to announce both new staff positions and promotions. These changes to the staff of AUPresses are intended to further the Association’s strategic goals and to strengthen its ability to serve members.

AUPresses has brought Annette Windhorn on board in the new role of External Communications Manager. This new position has been designed to better communicate the unique value proposition of university presses to the broader academic stakeholder community, and to support growing public awareness campaigns such as University Press Week and #ReadUP. Windhorn comes to AUPresses from the Organization of American Historians (OAH), where she served as the program coordinator for the successful Distinguished Lectureship Program. Previously, Windhorn was the Marketing Director at OAH and also at the Smithsonian Institution Press. Windhorn joined the Association of University Presses on July 30.

Earlier this year, AUPresses also hired Angelica DeVoe to the position of Program Coordinator, and Kate Kolendo to the newly developed Communications Program Manager position. DeVoe, who has held previous positions at WebMD and the Children’s Aid Society, works on both cooperative services and membership programs. Kolendo was made a permanent staff member after serving in the role of Communications & Special Projects Consultant in late 2017, as the Association undertook a renaming and new visual identity. Kolendo, who previously served as Project Manager and PROSE Award administrator for the Professional & Scholarly Publishing Division (PSP) of the Association of American Publishers, will be responsible for community management of a soon-to-launch online network for AUPresses, among other program responsibilities.

In addition to these new hires, AUPresses has reconfigured several existing staff roles to better reflect strategic directions. Kim Miller, previously Office Manager and Program Administrator, was promoted to Business Manager in October 2017. Miller is responsible for managing outsourced accounting services, office and business administration, and payroll and benefits. Susan Patton has been promoted to Membership & Events Director. Patton has been with the Association since 1998, and is responsible for membership management, the planning and organization of the annual meeting, as well as administering the professional development programs of the Association. The new title recognizes Patton’s key role in a variety of the Association’s flagship member-facing projects and events. Brenna McLaughlin has taken on the new title of Research & Communications Director, responsible for the expanded communications team at AUPresses and tasked with overseeing new research and data communications initiatives as outlined by the board of directors and membership groups.

“The Association’s leadership established an exciting strategic vision for AUPresses,” said Executive Director Peter Berkery. “I am confident that the strong team we have in place is well-positioned to help bring that vision to life, serving the needs of our member presses and advocating for the value and purpose of university press publishing.”
