In nearly every field and specialization, a prominent association or society, and in many cases, two or three, support and publish in the field. These organizations publish journals, books, trade magazines (not to be confused with trade publishing), newsletters, podcasts, websites, and other publications to support members and the organization; frequently, publishing strategy and operations are key drivers of the association’s revenue. It’s also safe to say that most people thinking about a career in publishing don’t necessarily think of association publishing as a career opportunity.
