Editorial Program
Wits University Press champions knowledge from and about Africa. Its mission-based scholarly publishing programme disseminates South(ern) African peer-reviewed research, in the form of monographs and edited collections, to local and international audiences.
Wits focusses on the Humanities and Social Sciences, with a strong list in history and sociology, politics and philosophy, cultural studies, literary studies, anthropology, archaeology and urban studies. Its core list of local scholarly work is supplemented with co-publications, a strong theatre list, and an impressive backlist of South African classics in African languages that is in the process of being digitised. Currently, Wits publishes one journal, the Wits Journal of Clinical Medicine.
Its strategy benefits from the growth in research from Africa, with the aim of influencing global debates about the continent and the Global South more broadly.
