Editorial Program
Naval Institute Press publishes general interest, professional, and scholarly books in naval and military history, national security, and related defense topics. While the focus is on the sea services—the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard—the list also includes works on land warfare, air power, and broader military and strategic issues. Select titles in military-themed fiction and memoir are also part of the program. Established in 1898, the Press serves a diverse audience that includes trade audiences, military professionals, academics, and policymakers. Its publications range from historical studies and biographies to books focused on leadership and professional development. Notable series include History of Military Aviation, Transforming War, and the Blue & Gold Professional Library, among others. The Press also maintains a backlist of classic reprints and translations, supporting continued access to foundational works in naval and military thought. Naval Institute Press is the book-publishing arm of the independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit U.S. Naval Institute.
