AUPresses Condemns Political Attacks on Books in Schools

The Association of University Presses has signed on to a joint statement issued this month by the National Coalition Against Censorship (NCAC), protesting the summary removal from school libraries of books that address concerns of historically underrepresented individuals.

The statement also characterizes the widespread attempts at banning books across the US as indicative of an organized political attack and deplores the escalating level of intimidation directed at librarians, teachers, school board members, and others for allowing students access to books

In keeping with our Association’s core values, we affirm intellectual freedom as a vital right, and agree with the NCAC that “Denying young people this freedom to explore will limit not only what they can learn but who they can become.”
