Librarians Recognize Excellence in Latest University Press Books

“Best of the Best” in Scholarly Publishing to be Recognized at 2012 ALA

NEW YORK, NY—The 22nd edition of University Press Books for Public and Secondary School Libraries is now available online at www.aaupnet.org/librarybooks.

A popular and trusted acquisitions resource, the university press bibliography is the product of a longstanding and successful collaboration between the Association of American University Presses (AAUP), the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), and public librarians.

School and public librarians have selected, reviewed, and rated more than 380 books published by members of the AAUP. Featuring subjects as diverse as folk art, immigration, short fiction, American pioneers, and international relations, and titles published in formats from e-book to glossy photographs, the bibliography provides librarians with valuable scholarship to match any interest, from serious researchers to general readers and students.

To launch the newest edition of the bibliography, a special program, “The Best of the Best from University Presses: Books You Should Know About” will be held on June 24 at this year’s American Library Association summer meeting in Anaheim, CA. The panel will be recorded by C-Span’s BookTV.*

At the session, five librarians from AASL and public library selection committees will present eighteen of their favorite titles from the bibliography to encourage its use in collection planning. This year’s panelists are Hilary Albert, Mahopac Public Library, Mahopac, NY; Nann Blaine Hilyard, Zion-Benton Public Library, Zion, IL; Merlyn Miller, Burr and Burton Academy, Manchester, VT; Annemarie Roscello, Bergen Community College, Paramus, NJ; and Barbara Morrow Williams, Riverside County, Riverside, CA.

A complete list of titles to be featured on June 24 is available online at http://www.aaupnet.org/news-a-publications/aaup-publications/university-press-books-for-libraries/best-of-the-best.
