AUPresses Hangout: Let’s Talk About…The Series Journey: From Birth to Death

Hosted by the Acquisitions Editorial Committee

University presses have long organized books into series, which often—but not always—bring together a team of scholars to recruit, review, and publicize new books. This session sets out to look at the advantages and challenges of this model, from series launch to closure.  Three panelists will discuss making the decision to open a series (or not) and developing it once it launches, navigating an inherited series and making changes to an established one, and deciding when to close a series and managing that decision across departments and with series editors. Additional topics to be discussed may include making cross-departmental decisions about design or other elements of a series and the challenges of managing a locally focused series. A Q&A session will wrap up the hangout.

Speakers:
Daniel Nasset, Editor-in-Chief, University of Illinois Press; Alisa Plant, Director, LSU Press; Mary Puckett, Editor, University of Florida Press

Moderators:
Elisabeth Maselli, Senior Editor, University of Pennsylvania Press; Megan Michel Mendonca, Senior Nature Publications Coordinator, Princeton University Press
