Making the New Edition of Best Practices for Peer Review of Scholarly Books

How can the enduring strengths of peer review be applied to emerging modes of scholarship? What are practical ways to implement the values of equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging in peer review? And how can editors think more critically about who qualifies as an expert? This panel highlights the updates and revisions in the new edition of the Best Practices for Peer Review of Scholarly Books. Panel members will share the thinking about practical and ethical considerations in the evolving academic landscape that informed this refresh of the tools of peer review. Attendees are welcome to bring questions; the new edition may be found here.

Panelists: Courtney Berger, Executive Editor, Duke University Press; Debbie Gershenowitz, Executive Editor, UNC Press; Peggy Solic, Senior Editor, Rutgers University Press; Beth Bouloukos, Director, Amherst College Press; and Andrew Berzanskis, Editorial Director, University of Oklahoma Press
