Hosted by the Equity, Justice, Inclusion & Belonging Committee
AUPresses EJIB committee is inviting everyone in the AUPresses community to talk about microaggressions. This hangout is a space for folks to share their experiences with microaggressions in the workplace. Microaggressions are often unintentional, but they contribute to an unwelcoming work environment despite their lack of conscious intent to harm. They can have an especially deep impact on people from marginalized backgrounds, creating barriers for equity and inclusion. Those who have experienced microaggressions may not feel comfortable speaking up—which can make it difficult to create awareness around microaggressions and how to prevent them from happening. Within the publishing world, all of us work with authors, coworkers, and contacts from all kinds of backgrounds. Through this hangout, we hope to foster a candid discussion about what microaggressions can look like and learn from each other in creating and sustaining spaces that feel safe and inclusive for all. This session will not be recorded.
