Between the EAA and ADA Title II, publishers must now meet WCAG AA accessibility requirements. Many presses do not have in-house resources for epub conversions, relying instead on 3rd-party vendors to provide accessible digital conversions of published products. Current automated checkers, while useful, can fail to identify areas where epubs have not been properly remediated, causing liability issues for presses that rely on such tools as the sole means for verifying compliance. In order to ensure the accessibility of electronic products, it is important to have in-house the ability to check 3rd-party vendor conversions for quality and for frequently-missed remediations.
This webinar will cover current automated accessibility checkers, common issues with the results, and examples of how to locate, identify, and provide feedback for vendors to correct such issues.
This webinar is adapted from the session by the same name that occurred at the 2026 AUPresses Annual Meeting in Seattle. We are pleased to be able to explore this topic virtually for members who were unable to attend or attendees who would like to revisit it.
