New York, NY— The Association of American University Presses (AAUP) has published the report of the latest Digital Book Publishing Strategies in the AAUP Community survey.
AAUP has collected information about members’ digital book publishing programs since 2010. The survey gauges the degree of adoption of a wide range of digital strategies for producing and disseminating books or long-form scholarly content. The Digital Book Publishing survey also collects information on ebook revenue, workflows, and publishers’ perspectives.
In 2015, 74 presses (54% of the AAUP membership) shared information via the survey. Some highlights from the data:
- 92% of responding presses make ebooks available for individual sale
- 65% report some degree of participation in Open Access publishing
- 43% report ebook revenue at 10-20%
- Resources, technology infrastructure, and sustainable business or support models remain publishers’ most significant concerns for digital publishing
The theme for AAUP 2015 (#aaup15, June 18-20 in Denver) is “Connect, Collaborate” and digital technologies and networks are offering new ways for presses to leverage our community’s connections and expand collaborative and innovative solutions to publishing challenges. Digital Book Publishing Strategies in the AAUP Community 2015 is available publicly, and will help to frame many discussions and debates at next week’s annual meeting.
