Barton, Creesy, and Jensen Honored with 1996 Constituency Award

Annual University Press Award Presented to Creators of New Online Tools

Snowbird, Utah—The annual AAUP Constituency Award was presented to a trio of member staff at this year’s Annual Meeting in Snowbird. Bruce Barton, Chuck Creesy, and Michael Jensen worked together to develop and launch an online catalog for the association. The award honors their active leadership and service to AAUP and the university press community.

Jensen (National Academies) hatched the idea for an online, association-wide catalog, and Barton (Chicago) and Creesy (Princeton) took it up and launched it. The trio is also responsible for the creation of the much-trafficked AAUP listserv. Each has been an active member of the Computer Committee and devoted significant time to its newsletter and to AAUP Electronic Workshops.

“These three, more than any other constituents, have brought AAUP member presses into the realm of electronic publishing by making us aware of both the technical and the philosophic issues we confront during this time of transition.” “Nobody has done more to help the AAUP and its members move into the digital age.”
