Nashville, Tennessee—The annual AAUP Constituency Award was presented to Oxford’s Sheldon Meyer at the association’s Annual Meeting in Nashville, honoring his years of active leadership and service to the association and the university press community.
Meyer, who is currently Senior Vice President at Oxford University Press’s New York office, has a long history of service to the scholarly publishing community. Along with Les Phillabaum, he wrote “What is a University Press?” in 1980—now an essential defining document for presses and their universities. Meyer also completed three terms on the AAUP Board, along with chairing the Annual Meeting Committee for three years and also serving on the Nominating Committee.
Meyer’s work as an editor is also recognized by the community and numerous book awards, including several Pulitzers. Meyer’s colleagues write that “he is without a doubt the finest editorial force in the business, in fact a legend in his own time among scholars and the general world of publishing. That he is one of us exemplifies the quality, character, and professionalism that all of us can be proud of.”
