AUPresses Begins New Year by Welcoming New Members

The Association of University Presses (AUPresses) warmly welcomes the National Taiwan University Press as a Regular Member. National Taiwan University Press publishes both scholarly monographs and textbooks in the humanities and social sciences after rigorous evaluation. Founded in 1996, it has nearly 800 titles in print, half of which are available online, and publishes more than 35 titles per year. The press publishes primarily in Chinese, though also in Japanese and occasionally works in English that are related to Taiwan. It joins a robust group of AUPresses Regular Members in Asia: Chinese University of Hong Kong Press, Hong Kong University Press, NUS Press in Singapore, and the University of Tokyo Press.

A new Introductory Member also has joined AUPresses’ global community of more than 160 publishers, committed to the highest caliber of research-based scholarship. American University of Sharjah Press is a newly established press aiming to publish 3-5 titles each year in disciplines where its home university holds distinction. AUPresses members in the Middle East also include Regular Member American University in Cairo Press and Affiliate Member Qatar University Press.

Scholarly publishers join the Association to support both their day-to-day work and their broader mission to disseminate the fruits of scholarship widely. AUPresses members uphold the highest standards of editorial rigor and peer review in their publication programs, enacting a common commitment to scholarship, the academy, and society.

Association members are classified in three categories—Regular, Affiliate, and Introductory. All AUPresses members are non-profit, have established the scholarly character of their publishing programs—including both peer review processes and editorial board review in the case of Regular Members—and meet certain additional eligibility requirements related to staff structure, size, and annual publication output. Introductory memberships may last up to 5 years, during which time the press uses the Association’s membership resources to help develop into a scholarly publishing program that meets either Regular or Affiliate eligibility requirements. All membership nominations  are evaluated by the Association’s Admissions and Standards Committee; Regular and Affiliate members are approved by the Association’s Board of Directors and by a vote of all Regular members.
