AUPresses Joins in Denouncing Federal Censorship of American History

The Association of University Presses (AUPresses) denounces recent efforts by the US government to censor historical content throughout its portfolio of official resources, including on its websites, at many museums and historical sites, and throughout its vast collection of public documents.

We join with the American Historical Association and the Organization of American Historians, along with other colleagues, in asserting that these executive orders and federal directives distort, manipulate, and alter not only the public record but the scholarly one as well. By prioritizing narrow ideology over historical research, the current administration compromises historical accuracy and erases the actual experiences of Americans.

These US mandates are deeply antithetical to the work of our community of mission-driven publishers. Together, our members worldwide continue to be dedicated to preserving the integrity, rigor, and reliability of the scholarly record and to stewarding it responsibly, despite mounting threats.
