The Association of University Presses (AUPresses) regularly receives queries about its position or requests for a statement on the next “big thing” in scholarly publishing.
At its spring 2024 meeting, our Board of Directors adopted a Guiding Principles statement that articulates our general position. This statement recognizes the diverse views, commitments, and capacities of AUPresses members and foregrounds the Association’s mission and core values when evaluating any new technology or business model.
The statement concludes, “When a new technology or model begins to affect our community, the Association’s first role is to develop necessary resources, pursue partnerships, respond to policymaking, and hold open conversations that can promote important and evolving ideas in scholarly communications in ways that are beneficial to our members, our mission, and our values.”
